University Of East Anglia – Venlo Greenhouse research facility

Project by Bridge Greenhouses

A Venlo greenhouse structure, with eight compartments and a central corridor, was delivered and installed for plant research at the University of East Anglia (UEA).

The structure was equipped with vertical and horizontal screens, benches, an automatic irrigation system, ventilation, heating and a Tomtech environmental control system that can be used to carefully regulate the glasshouse’s environment.

Area: 211 m2

Industry: Education

Use: Research

Greenhouse Structure: Venlo greenhouse, 8x compartments and a central corridor, 16mm twin wall polycarbonate to external sides, gables & roof with 4mm toughened glass to the internal partitions.

Screens: Thermal/shade pullwire roof screens and vertical roll tube screens to the sides.

Ventilation System: Roof vents fitted with insect netting combined with speed-controlled inlet & extract fan units c/w filter & gravity damper to provide ambient cooling.

Benching: A combination of Static & Mobile benching with galvanised weldmesh tops

Irrigations: A combination of Hand watering points and automatic irrigation to bench tops consisting of drip lines with capillaries.

Heating: Heating consists of finned tube heat emitters located around the perimeter of each compartment. The system is served from existing boiler plant.

Electrical & Controls:

The electrical installation consisted of a mains distribution panel c/w switch panel for each of the 8no. compartments. Access lighting is installed to the corridor along with power sockets.

HPS grow lights are installation within the 8 no. compartments.

A Tomtech T200 centralised environmental controller is installed to provide control over the ventilation, screens, heating, irrigation & grow lights.
